The good news for the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis is that in clinical testing it seems to greatly help men who suffer from impotence as a result of spinal cord injuries.

The Cialis research that will appear in the November issue of the Archives of Neurology explains that only about a quarter of men who have serious spinal cord injuries are actually able to maintain an erection which is adequate for sexual intercourse and thus many of them live very unfulfilled sex lives.

Another thing that was noted was that most spinal cord injuries happen to young men in the course of sport or other dangerous activities.

In this new research doctor Francois Giuliano from the Raymond Poincare Hospital in France examined almost 200 men for the project. The study which according to good clinical practice was done in a randomised and double blind manner saw 142 men being given Cialis and 44 men being placed in the placebo group.

The study went on for twelve weeks and the volunteers were told to take the medicine when they felt that sexual activity was imminent.

The results were evaluated using something called the International Index of Erectile Function which evaluates erection hardness and sexual satisfaction by a fifteen question survey.

The results of the survey showed that the men who were given the Cialis medication had a much improved erectile function when compared to the men who were given the placebo drug.

In fact overall the researchers said that the men who took the Cialis were successful in penetration in just over ? of attempts whereas those men who use the placebo drug did not even get to the 50 percent figure.

This is very good news for men who suffer from spinal cord related erectile dysfunction especially as Cialis was well tolerated in the vast majority of patients.
