A study into the effectiveness of the erectile dysfunction medications Viagra, Cialis and Levitra has concluded that Cialis is slightly more effective than the other two.
This research which was announced at the Joint Congress of the European and International Societies for Sexual Medicine will be a significant boost for the manufacturer of Cialis.
The research which was led by Doctor Jose Maria Cuadrado from the Hospital Universitario de Bellvitge in Barcelona was designed to accurately record the effectiveness, patient preference and any differences between the respective impotence drugs.
The study was a fixed dose, double blind, crossover trial in which patients were given either 100mg of Viagra, 20mg of Cialis or 20mg of Levitra and were unaware of which drugs they were using.
The men taking part, all of whom suffered from severe erectile dysfunction, were told to accurately record the effect of the individual drugs on their erectile function, and questionnaires using the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) were presented to gauge the results. The conclusion of the research using the mean IIEF scores was Cialis 21.74, Viagra 20.56 and Levitra 20.64.
The researchers said that the difference between the scores of Viagra and Levitra were not actually significant but that the slightly elevated score for Cialis was statistically relevant.
Using another method of evaluating the effectiveness of erectile dysfunction medication called the Erectile Dysfunction Inventory for Treatment Satisfaction and which includes the sexual partner in the evaluation process also gave Cialis a slight advantage over Viagra and Levitra.
Overall Doctor Cuadrado noted that men preferred Cialis in almost 40 percent of cases over Viagra (18.5%) and Levitra (17.6%). Interestingly however almost ? of the men involved in this research expressed no preference whatsoever for the different drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.
