Cialis - Used To Help Rheumatic Disease Sufferers

Researchers in India at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences say that the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis could be a useful treatment in treating men and women who suffer from narrow blood vessels caused by rheumatic disease Dr

Padmanabha Shenoy who led the study and who heads the Department of Immunology explained that Cialis could be used alongside other medications to help people who suffer from secondary Raynauds phenomenon

This condition occurs when blood vessels suddenly narrow too much when they are subjected to low temperatures and thus the flow of blood to the hands and feet of patients decreases drastically. In the study the Cialis was used as an additional treatment for patients who had not responded well to vasodilatorsa treatment that usually relaxes the muscles in blood vessels and allows them to expand.

The researchers noted that those patients who were given the Cialis had statistically less problems with Raynauds phenomenon compared to those who were given the placebo. Overall the researchers said that this study had proved the efficacy of Cialis in treating Raynauds phenomenon and in preventing ischemic ulcers that often occur as a result of it.

Dr. Padmanabha Shenoy said that it is possible that this study could lead to research for the treatment of scleroderma which at present has no remedy. The detailed results of the study were presented to the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Rheumatology in California.

Erectile dysfunction is just one of many diseases which is caused by the insufficient blood flow through arteries. Pulmonary arterial hypertension is another illness which can be treated with the use of the class of drugs that Cialis such as Viagra, manufactured by Pfizer, Levitra produced by Bayer Health Care, and Intrinsa, a testosterone patch developed by Procter & Gamble to treat Female Sexual Dysfunction) belongs to.

The manufacturers of the erectile dysfunction remedies Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are now investing in research which could mean that a whole new range of medical conditions would be treated by PDE 5 inhibitors.
