In most third world countries, such as India and China, it is estimated that nearly 20% of medicines on sale are fake, and those that treat erectile dysfunction are among the most common. However, until now, this has not been a problem in the United Kingdom.

Recently, Health Authorities in the United Kingdom have found that identical copies of the erectile dysfunction drug, Cialis, have been produced and sold throughout the UK. Those responsible have been able to produce packaging that is almost indistinguishable to that manufactured by Cialis, which tricks customers into believing they are purchasing the real drug under names such as Professional Viagra and Super Cialis. The masterminds behind this deception have also been able to place these fakes into the legitimate supply lines which in turn means that even the people selling the drugs believe them to be the real deal.

The Health Authorities first became aware of this issue when a customer complained that the drugs they bought believing them to be Cialis contained crumbling tablets instead. When the manufacturer, Eli Lilly, was contacted it soon became apparent that these customers were in possession of a fake version of Cialis.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency have tested these fake supplies of Cialis and have deemed them not to be dangerous directly; however, people should be aware that the standards of health and safety we usually expect within the pharmaceutical industry will not be enforced in the plants that manufacture these fake drugs. Therefore, the likelihood of these drugs being otherwise dangerous is quite high. The MHRA advises that anyone who has bought fake versions of Cialis should immediately return them and contact Eli Lilly directly.
